Is Nano Banana 2.5 free?
There is nothing to pay for, because there is nothing to buy. No Nano Banana 2.5 product, tier, or API exists. The only no-cost way to reach the model behind the spicy-mayo codename is an Arena blind battle, where pairing is random and you cannot request it by name.
The only free route, and its catch
Arena image battles are free to run, and Arena is where the spicy-mayo model appears. So the route exists. The catch is that you do not get to choose.
- Open arena.ai and go to the image arena.
- Enter a prompt. Two anonymous models answer it side by side. Neither is labelled at this stage — that is the point of a blind battle.
- Vote for the output you prefer. You must vote before the names are revealed. There is no way to peek first.
- Read the reveal panel to see which two models you just used. If spicy-mayo is one of them, that was your free run. If not, start another battle.
Pairing is random across the whole model pool, so reaching a specific model is luck and can take many battles. No prompt wording changes the odds — see the prompt set for what to do with the battle when it does happen.
What "free" meant last cycle
The previous model on this line, Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, did have genuine free access after launch: it was usable at no cost in Google AI Studio and inside the Gemini app's free tier, both subject to rate limits. API usage beyond the free quota was billed per generated image.
That is a reasonable expectation to hold loosely for whatever ships next — Google has consistently put its image models in front of free users — but it is an expectation, not a commitment anyone has made.
On sites charging for access
A codename phase reliably produces paid "early access" offers. The reasoning is simple enough to check yourself: the model is only reachable inside Arena's blind battles, where even Arena's own users cannot select it. A third party cannot resell access it has no way to obtain.
So a site taking payment for Nano Banana 2.5 generations is serving you a different model under that label. If you want a frontier image model today, use one that publishes its model ID — the options are listed on the API page.
Free access FAQ
Is Nano Banana 2.5 free to use?
The question does not have a product to attach to yet. Running an Arena image battle is free, and that is currently the only place the model is believed to appear. There is no paid tier because there is no announced product.
Can I choose spicy-mayo in an Arena battle?
No. Arena pairs two anonymous models at random and only reveals their names after you vote. Seeing a specific model is luck, and you may need many battles.
Was the previous Nano Banana free?
It had a free path: Gemini 2.5 Flash Image was usable at no cost in Google AI Studio and within the Gemini app's free tier, subject to rate limits, while API use above the free quota was billed per image.
Are the sites selling Nano Banana 2.5 credits legitimate?
Be careful. There is no model to resell. Sites charging for Nano Banana 2.5 access are either routing your prompt to a different model or selling access to something that does not exist yet.
